January 2, 2024

Dear WIS Families,

Welcome to 2024! I hope everyone had a wonderful Winter Break and a very happy New Year!  We are excited to be back in school. Here are some updates for the week:

WIS Upcycled Winter Ski Village

This is an optional, fun opportunity for students to use their creativity to create a house or ski chalet with materials found around the house. The houses will be used to create a winter village display in the WIS Library. Students should use materials such as cardboard boxes, popsicle sticks, chopsticks etc, and students are encouraged to be as creative as they like. The houses can be dropped off to the WIS library throughout the month of January where they will be part of the winter village display for everyone to enjoy. Attached is a flyer with more information about the project and ideas on how to participate.

Winter Progress Monitoring

Our teachers monitor student progress throughout the year.  In addition to ongoing classroom assessment of progress, our district uses the NWEA to track student growth in math.  Our students took this online assessment in the fall. The winter assessment will take place within the first few weeks of January.  Keep in mind that this is one piece of information about student learning.  Teachers will analyze the results in context with all of the information they have gathered about their students.

Important Dates:

January 15: No School, Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Feb 2: Early dismissal for professional development. 12:35pm dismissal

Feb 19-23: School is closed for winter break

Feb 26: No School, Professional Development for teachers

Warm regards,
